The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team and its London based digital agency, Work Club, were last night awarded a coveted One Show Gold Award for its innovative new website, ‘The Race 1.1’. Widely considered as the ‘Oscars‘ of the marketing and advertising industries, the annual One Awards recognises the world’s best work across a variety of categories including television and radio advertising, design and interactive marketing.
Launched immediately prior to the 2010 Formula One race season in March, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes website (www.mclaren.com/home) gives race fans greater proximity to its team than ever before, and integrates real time race data from the ‘Vodafone Player’ to give fans a virtual seat on the pit-wall.
McLaren’s Group Head of Brand, John Allert, said, “This win is a credit both to the creativity of our agency, Work Club, and the vision of Vodafone, who have recognised the value of putting fans and customers at the heart of the action.”
Taking the iconic gold, pencil shaped trophy over finalists such as Apple, Sony Pictures and GE, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has again demonstrated its pedigree as an innovator in marketing and branding, both in the paddock and away from it.
Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh said, “We pride ourselves in staying ahead of the game in everything we do, be it our cars, our new garage interior, our Brand Centre or our online presence. This award is great recognition for the efforts of the people of McLaren, Vodafone and Work Club who have worked so hard to achieve world’s best practice in web design.”
